What was your best 2020 moment?
Working in collaboration and on ground with Don Strong and Derek Semadeni at Vestas to bring the $74m wind blade from concept to live load on rail.

If you could improve one thing about moving HIWDs, what would it be?
Greater engagement with OEMs to provide clearer picture on why we can or cannot move their proposed load. Every proposal has a story to tell.

What does RICA mean to you? Why support it and stay involved?
RICA provides the environment and mechanism to have industry collaboration at a Micro and Macro levels focusing on oversize type cargo. Without this environment and mechanism the industry will not continually improve or advance sufficiently with our market.

Any hobbies?
Model trains (no joking)! Traveling to Walt Disney World, Vero Beach, Florida Coast... when are we going back to Ponte Vedra?

Kelli has been in the dimensional market for over 30 years. She spent 17 years with CSX where she started in the Real Estate group and eventually moved over to the Rail Transportation side of the business. In 2006,Kelli went to work for Specialized Rail Transport (SRT), now SRT Transportation Solutions, a Kasgro company.

What was your best moment from 2020?
A major customer of ours was facing the challenge of moving their equipment through a difficult area. The short line was stating that improvements needed to be made to the rail line and possibly bridge work would be required. SRT worked with the short line, did a mock shipment and showed where the units would be able to clear. SRT was able to save our customer over $350,000 and time that would have significantly delayed their project.

If you could improve one thing about moving HIWDs, what would it be?
The amount of time it takes to get bridge and engineering responses when multiple railroads are involved.

What is a goal you would like to accomplish with RICA?
More interaction between manufacturer and railroad in the planning stages of a project.

What does RICA mean to you? Why support it and stay involved?
I have been a part of RICA since 2001, and it’s a staple of what the dimensional market means to me. The network of people, the resources and knowledge is invaluable in a market that is increasingly challenging with each and every move.

Please tell us about yourself.
I am blessed with 2 wonderful kids, a great son-in-law and now have the amazing title of Mimi to a handsome grandson. I’m a die-hard Gator fan and a beach loving person that is fortunate to live in Florida. My greatest accomplishment is to have been a single mom and built a career in an industry that I truly love no matter how great the challenge is at times. My greatest RICA memory was the honor of being President of the organization. It is truly an organization I believe in and it will always be a part of who I am.
